BBC’s Question Time invites women-only audience.

BBC1's politics show, Question Time, will invite a women-only audience on March 11th to coincide with International Women's Week. The contemporary debate programme, chaired by veteran broadcaster David Dimbleby will take place in Dewsbury. This will be the first time in the programme's 30-year history that it will allow a women-only audience.

The show has been welcomed by the equality campaign group, the Fawcett Society. The group’s chief executive, Ceri Goddard, commented that the BBC play a crucial role in ensuring that the voices of women are properly heard in political debates and can hold politicians to account. She added that while there was no such thing as a 'bloc vote' of women, at present the main political parties' consideration of women in their policy development fell "well short of our expectations".

"On all the big issues from the economy, to crime, to support for families, politicians often fail to consider or fail to explain what the impact of these decisions will be on women – and often they are starkly different from their impact on men," she said. "It is also timely that the show will be aired in the week that Fawcett will be launching the hotly anticipated coalition campaign of women's and equality organisations to ask all political parties, in the run up to the election, What About Women?"

Ceri Goddard will also appear on the Politics Show at midday on Sunday where she will ask parties for some policy substance not just spin to win women’s votes and 3 women parliamentary candidates will respond to and debate Fawcett’s polling on what women want from the next government.
