Case for diversity stronger now than ever
At a TUC conference on the 9th of February, General Secretary Brendan Barber argued that the need for equality - offering fair chances, tackling inequality and unlocking the talents of everyone in our society - is greater than ever in a recession. Speaking at the same conference, Minister for Women and Equality Harriet Harman explained that 'equality and an absence of discrimination are the hallmarks of a modern society, as well as important for the economy so that it can draw on the talents of all. Without any doubt, the current economic climate gives businesses where women are currently under-represented, the perfect opportunity to address this issue and achieve specific diversity goals.
