How PREPARED are You?

Last year, Yasmina Siaddatan was hired as Sir Alan's apprentice. She believed that she had something to offer, and rather than giving in to fear or allowing the obstacles around her to envelope her, she focused on perfecting her art. Yasmina, who had previously worked in her dad's restaurant, learnt one or two skills which prepared her for 'The Apprentice' experience.

Her experience reinforces the importance of these ten attributes in the workplace:

         Preparation
         Flexibility
         Creativity
         Perseverance
         Determination
         Profitability
         Solution-oriented
         Team-oriented
         Diligence
         Confidence

Let's start with our first attribute, Preparation.

You may be doing a job that you do not particularly love. I have spoken to a number of women who have absolutely no passion for what they currently do at work. This is a very common problem. Regardless of what you are doing or where you are working, it is important for you to focus on developing your skills and preparing for that 'perfect' career opportunity. (You may be thinking there's no such thing as a perfect career. I will explain what I mean by 'perfect' in a subsequent article).

One of our key aims at Smart Opportunities for Women is to support, prepare and equip women for the workplace. We are excited that more and more women are requesting for practical hands-on personal development workshops that will help them to advance their careers and businesses. The good news is that in response to this, our team of qualified experts have developed some great workshops which will be commencing in April/May 2010.

To be continued.
